South Hill PARISH MEETING

South Hill Annual Parish Meeting the Parish Hall, Golberdon. Wednesday 15th May 2019

40 people attended, using the main hall for displays by local groups and inspected the work on the hall improvements to date. The floor still needed to be finished so the group moved into the meeting room, cosy but proved 30 people can be seated there no problem.

Cllr David Skelton welcomed everyone, thanked the W.I members for providing and serving the refreshments and gave his report.

South Hill Parish Council – March 19th 2019 meeting

Parish Council meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend to address the council at the start of the meeting with any matters or questions or just sit in and stay for the meeting or leave at any time.

Parish Hall Refurbishment    The Parish Council has worked alongside the Parish Hall Committee to obtain funding to carry out some refurbishment works.  The Hall will be closed for up to six weeks when a new hall floor and heating system will be installed.  Grant funding has been obtained to cover most the costs.  There is a small amount of ground works required for the heating system so this will involve closing the recreation field while a trench is dug and pipes installed.  Notices will be displayed on all entrances but limited access will be allowed to the children’s play area. Although this may cause some inconvenience for a short period of time, the work will give us all a much improved hall for the future.

The next Parish Council meeting on the 16th April 2019 will therefore be held at St Sampsons Church; same time 7.30pm.  Please get in touch if you have any questions.

FACE YOGA – COMING SOON

Some of you might not know what Face Yoga is, others may already know or might have seen the recent programme on TV Twinstitute where the twin doctors tried Face Yoga and a £1000 facial and scientifically tested the results. In just one month Face Yoga made them look 3 years younger than the £1000 facial!

Weekly classes are starting at The Old School, South Hill Parish Hall, Golberdon and Pensilva Hall after Easter. The classes are run by Lilian Jones. It combines facial exercises, acupressure, massage, relaxation, breathing and visualisation techniques for your mind, body and soul.

It’s a natural way to make you look and feel younger and healthier. As an aromatherapist Lilian will mix specific oils that improve the quality of your skin. Lilian has been practising yoga for nearly forty years and a teacher for about fourteen years. So Face Yoga is putting all the skills into practice. Come along and do something for yourself. Relax and look forward to more youthful looks as you turn back the age clock.

Classes cost £6 each or £50 if you book 10.

 Parish Hall News

A year ago SHARE launched “Power The Night With Sunlight”, to gain votes for an M&S Energy grant to install a battery to store the energy produced by the PV panels all day around.  Thank you to the 1000s that voted and pledged money for gifts, BUT despite the huge support, we came second. However, this summer M&S Energy asked if we could complete our project by the end of September 2018. We did, despite a scare on the deadline when the installer’s wife went into early labour! The data produced by the battery storage so far is really interesting and it is encouraging to see the savings. Within the budget SHARE are also installing new low energy light fittings throughout the hall.

The Parish Hall committee and the Parish Council have just secured grant funding for further improvements at the hall and planning in underway for new flooring, heating and hopefully more.

If you think you have the skills to help with this project, in particular advice is needed on costing the various ways the insulation and heating could be improved, from a quantity surveyor for example. Contact David Skelton 382397 dave@pencashna.com

SHARE will be given the old floor boards, what can we/you do with them? If you’d like a piece of history, let Astrid know. SHARE@south-hill.co.uk 383620

Recycling for Charity. Biscuit wrappers and more can be put in the collection bins, placed at the Parish Hall, St Sampson’s church porch, Trevigro, Green Meadows, Callington Tesco and the Tamar AONB centre at Drakewalls. A list of recycled items is on the collection points and available on line.

Firewood. SHARE is delivering a mixed trailer load for £120 and dumpy bag full for £60. Call 384544 or 382397 NO deliveries between Nov 12th – 26th so book now. Thank you and keep it local.

Allotments available at Golberdon, £15 per year. Contact the parish clerk  southhillpcclerk@gmail.com or speak to Cllr. Jim Gale  07974 786066

Residents are encouraged to contact the Parish Council regards local matters and attend meetings  held at the parish hall in Golberdon on the 3rd Tuesday of each month starting at 7:30pm.

Thank you to the 1000’s that voted,(and got their friends to vote) BUT despite the huge support, we came second and lost out. The battery has been installed and tested and the data produced so far is really interesting and encouraging to see where further savings may be made. Within the budget SHARE are also installing new low energy light fittings throughout the hall.

Horticultural Show

Lots happening at the Horticultural Show this year, inside and out and down at the river…..

For the first time the Kit Hill group of the Cornwall Beekeepers Association had a stand at the Golberdon Horticultural Show on the 18th August. The display included bee identification, plants for bees and honey tasting. Geoff and Mary Hardman, (Chair and Secretary of Kit Hill CBKA respectively) cajoled passers-by to try honeys of six distinct flavours – all dependent on what the bees had foraged for. Dale Wood brought along his observation hive which proved very popular with visitors trying to spot the queen.  Kit Hill Beekeepers can be contacted via the secretary Mary Hardman at m.a.hardman@btinternet.com Continue reading
