“And Some Came Home” – support project now

Esme and Seth Blaze show their support for Callington Town Band’s Community project, ‘And Some Came Home’, when they put their tokens in the Town Band ‘Bags of Help’ slot at Callington Tesco.  With just a week or so to go they are hoping that the Town Band, in which both their parents play, will be a worthy winner.

And remember that you can support the project in other ways by coming along to the first Singing Workshop in Callington Town Hall at 10am on July 21st or by volunteering to act.  Contact Shirley Morse (01579 360336 or shirleyamorse@gmail.com) for more information.

This is the first event in the re-running of ‘And Some Came Home’, the successful community commemoration of WW1 that was first performed in 2014.

With a cast of local singers, actors and musicians the 2018 performances will take place in the Town Hall on October 26th and 27th with free admission.

If you can’t make it to the first session and would like to take part in any capacity then please contact Shirley Morse now on 01579 350336 or shirleyamorse@gmail.com

SHARE Update June 2018

The SHARE Guide to Saving Energy in the Home

SHARE has delivered this handy FREE booklet to all households in South Hill Parish.  It’s full of tips and advice from the Energy Saving Trust to help you save energy AND money.  Use it to reduce your bills AND your carbon footprint.

For example – DID YOU KNOW…?

You can save around £30 a year just by turning your appliances off stand-by mode!  Your TV, your laptop power supply, your phone charger – they don’t use much power but if they’re on 24/7 it adds up to a lot.

You can also read the Guide online at www.south-hill.co.uk/SHARE.

Just in case we’ve missed anybody out…  If you live in the parish and haven’t seen the booklet, please email or phone and we’ll deliver one to you.

Good News!  Investment offer over-subscribed.

Our recent investment offer was very well received by the membership.  The investment is a 2-year fixed term loan to SHARE which will pay 4% interest annually – better than any bank or building society.

About a quarter of members expressed an interest in the offer, and of those more than half decided to invest.  As a result, we were offered more money than we needed, so we scaled back the amount we will borrow from each lender.

The money raised is used to finance our solar PV installation at Church Park, South Hill, which has been in operation for 22 months and is performing even better than our original forecast.

SHARE IN OUR COMMUNITY

SHARE is proud to support St Sampson’s Church in their application to the Heritage Lottery Fund.  Improvements planned for the church include the addition of toilet and kitchen facilities.  This will be a green community initiative, using renewable, sustainable and locally sourced materials where possible.

We are also supporting the Parish Hall committee with their bid for funding from the Big Lottery Fund which, if successful, will enable the installation of a new kitchen, and battery storage to make better use of power generated by the solar panels on the Hall roof.  SHARE will encourage the use of energy-efficient appliances and an instant hot water boiler to replace the power-hungry tea urn.

Wi-fi disconnection?

With help from the Parish Council, SHARE has been paying for the fibre broadband and wi-fi connection at the Parish Hall in Golberdon, using income from the solar PV panels on the Hall roof (which we share 50:50 with the Parish Hall committee).  BUT…  our BT contract is now coming to an end, BT want to almost double the cost, and the Parish Council have said they can no longer contribute.  What do we do?  Our share of the income from the solar PV is not enough to cover BT’s aggressive price increase, so we are looking at alternatives.  It would be a shame if we had to abandon this valuable asset to the community.

Do YOU use the wi-fi service at the Hall?  Please let us know if this is important to you.

Planned visit to Plymouth Incinerator

This is still on the cards.  Details to follow.

Power The Night With Sunlight

WE HAVE BEEN SHORTLISTED FOR A GRANT

from M&S Energy

South Hill Parish Hall in Golberdon has set its sights on using sunlight
– at night!

‘Power the Night with Sunlight’ – South Hill Association for Renewable Energy from Stuart Bailey on Vimeo.

SHARE (South Hill Association for Renewable Energy) community benefit group have applied for an M&S Energy Grant to install a Tesla Power Wall in the Parish Hall at Golberdon.

This will enable the energy generated from the solar panels to be stored for later use and dramatically help with heating and running costs, helping to keep the hall a viable and attractive venue.

Voting is finished now.  Thank you to all who voted for us and pledged money for our wonderful rewards.

We will hear on November 6th whether we have been successful with our bid

Neighbourhood Development Plan – update

The South Hill Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) has now been returned after being reviewed by an independent examiner. The comments that we received were very positive and there were no major changes to make to the policies.

The NDP team are now organising an event for March 4th 2017 at the Parish Hall. This will be a Free Big Breakfast starting at 9am for all residents. The final draft version of the Plan will be available to be viewed and the team will be there to answer any questions that you may have.

You can read the background to the NDP provided by the Parish Council on their website…

South Hill Neighbourhood Development Plan

CONSULTATION PERIOD – 6 weeks – ENDING 16th SEPTEMBER 2016

In December 2014 Parish Councillor Geoff Clemerson researched the idea of a Neighbourhood Plan.  If you were living in the Parish or owned property here at that time, you would have had the opportunity to complete a survey.  Sections covered were:

  • ParishMapHousing and Building (11 questions)
  • The Environment We Live In (17 questions)
  • Renewable Energy (10 questions)
  • The Local Economy (8 questions)
  • About your Household (6 questions)

Comments were encouraged. The return rate was 81.2%, which is an excellent response. The results are published on the South Hill Connection web site – Hard copies will be made available.

A Draft Neighbourhood Development Plan has been produced, which has just been completed and approved by the Parish Council. There is a 6-week consultation period when YOU can comment to ensure the Plan reflects all the wishes of the Parish.

If you know someone who does not have access to the internet, and would like to see a copy of the NDP, please contact one of the parish councillors listed below.  There will also be laminated copies in the box outside the Parish Hall, and in St Sampson’s church porch, but please do not take these away.

  • South Hill and Bray Shop:                  Geoff Clemerson          01579 362623
  • Golberdon and Mornick:                    David Skelton               01579 382397
  •                                                                 Nick Easton                   07 715606252
  • Trevigro and surrounding area:         James Gale                   07974 786066
  •                                                                 Andrew Budd               01579 389328
  • Maders and Manaton area:               Dan Smith                     07 787536555

Please remember that comments can only be accepted if made in writing or by email as described above.

Comments are invited from anyone that has a connection to the Parish and should be sent to the Parish Clerk – by email (parish.clerk@south-hill.co.uk), or by letter to Jenny Hoskin, Branston Farm, Bodmin Road, BODMIN PL30 4BB.  Please do not try to telephone Mrs Hoskin; she is not a full time employee of the council, and will not be able to answer any queries or take comments on the phone.

Amendments can be made to The Plan before it is sent to Cornwall Council.  An Independent Examiner will be appointed who will take account of comments made and all relevant documentation, and if it meets all requirements will recommend The Plan proceeds to a referendum.  This process is documented on various web sites.

More details will be published as South Hill Connection receives them.

It is important that your views are represented within this 6 weeks consultation period.
