Browda 5ish miles loop walk


Browda Loop 5 ish miles 8.5km
There maybe stock in the fields. Leave all gates as you find them. Keep dogs under control.
From Golberdon crossroads, walk thru the hall car park and the children’s play-ground, passing through a small gate onto the road. Take care. Turn left and cross the road, into “The Square” and follow the path down “back lane”. Keep right and pass Moorland view houses and through the path into Trewoodloe lane. Turn Left.
Follow this all the way to Trewoodloe Farm House, (just past Trewoodloe Castle) see the footpath sign post, directing you to Lansugle. Go up the granite steps and over a stile. Keep the hedge on your left and aim for the top left corner of the grass field. Over a stone hedge stile and into another field. Take aim straight ahead, walking towards the power pole on the left, you’ll see the wooden stile beyond. Go over this, and down stone steps into Lansugle road.

Turn left and in the next gateway on the right, spot the footpath sign post and go through the gate. Straight ahead again and you’ll see a pile of stones, just to the left is a wooden walkway, stile and granite foot bridge over the stream. The path emerges from the wooded area over a wooden stile into a steep grass field. Follow the line of trees up, lots of up, to the top and stop and admire the views from here.
At the top of the field is a gate, to the right is a wooden stile, this is the footpath, into a fenced garden. Keep left past the shed and you’ll see a granite stile, with another shed in front of you. Keep right and enter the field through the 1st metal gate (there maybe goats and a donkey here) and aim for the top hedge, there’s a wooden stile to climb over.
On your left is the remnants of an old hedge, walk along this, taking care not to trip on the stones or put a foot down a rabbit hole. At the top, on your right is a stile to clamber over.
Follow the left hand hedge and spot the stile ahead, into another field and straight ahead again a stile into the road. Turn left and you’ll come to the junction at Mornick.
Turn right, up the track, the footpath signpost to Linkinhorne, has seen better days. Continue along the track, keeping left down a pathway, which brings you to a gate, with a For Sale sign on it. Enter the grass field and keeping the hedge on your left, descend to the stream. Go over this and over the stile and again keeping the hedge on your left, come to a metal gate. Enter into another grass field, with St Mellor church in front of you. Keep diagonally right, about 2 oclock, you’ll spot the gate into the road.
Turn left to Linkinhorne. Pass the church and pub (now closed) and at the corner junction, turn off the main road and go straight ahead and follow all the way to Browda Farm. There are great views and you’ll pass the ancient settlement, Roundbury, identified by 3 large beech trees by the road.     You’re about 1/2 way round.
Once you enter Browda, the road turns to the right and a little further on, the footpath is signposted on the left. Follow the path, through a gate. (maybe wet at certain times of the year)
Follow the track through the woods to a gate, then a further gate, over the granite footbridge into a field. Keeping right to the bottom of the field, see the wooden stile in the fence and follow the fence line, on your right, all the way to a wooden gate, bringing you to a granite footbridge over a stream and a path to Wagmuggle.
Turn right on the road, Berrio Mill is on the right, and Berrio Farm on the left, with a footpath signpost. Turn left up the driveway, through the gate, go straight ahead, pass the house on the left and up around to the right, to a metal gate. Pass through this and turn left up across the steep field to the top hedge. Go through the metal gate and keep the hedge on your left.
At the end of the field, go through the gate, pass the fence on your left and spot the small new footpath gate on the right. This takes you down a path between properties and out into the driveway of Trewoodloe House. Continue straight ahead and you’ll come to Trewoodloe Farm House (where you were earlier). Stay on this lane back to the junction. Turn right and this will bring you back to the Golberdon crossroads.

 

Pigeon Wood footpath walk.


Pigeon Wood Loop about 4.75 miles  7.7km

From Golberdon crossroads, take the Callington road to Maders, be watchful for traffic, especially where narrow. Pass the notice board in the layby and keep going. Leaving Maders you pass the entrance to Woodland Farm then a lane before you reach Woodland Lodge where you enter the driveway, (the footpath signpost is missing). Before the drive turns, by a large tree, go left on the path to a hedge and scramble over into a track. Follow the track around to the right, through 2 metal gates, across a grass field, (there maybe stock here), go through the left gate, lift the rope over the post, into another grass field. Keep the hedge on your right and follow around to a small wood gate, pass through here and continue down to another small wood gate and down steps onto a track.

Turn left and continue along the track, over a sleeper bridge and pass through a metal gate. Pass the chickens, you’ll come to Bearland cottage on your right, continue along the driveway to Bearland Bridge. Note the South Hill boundary stone and a way marker stone.

Turn left and immediately right down the driveway to Haye Mill. Just before the house, turn right through a metal gate into Pigeon Wood. Planted with broadleaf trees in 2017.

Continue following the wire fence, keeping left, to a wood stile. Take care on the stones as it can be wet and muddy here. Follow the path to a small wood gate into a narow lane. Follow this to the road and turn right to Trevigro. (If you were to turn left this would bring you to Caddapit and the water works.)  

At the junction there is a bench and a footpath signpost to Trewolland. Take this, across the fields to a stile, though the scrub, over a stile, straight across the field and out to the road at Trewolland. Turn right, go to the corner and take the concrete driveway to Trenavin House.

Just pass the house, the footpath continues through the picket fence, but for this walk, turn right up the covered track which brings you out just before Fair View kennels. Turn left and enjoy the views as you continue back to Golberdon crossroads.

4.5 miler Treven, Mornick, Trewassick, Trewoodloe


Read the route directions before setting off, as there maybe options along the way.
From the crossroads, Take the road signposted to South Hill. Passing Keadeen B&B. Go over the bridge, Phil Coles The Butcher is on the right and Coombe Small Animal Hotel. Pass the entrance to Trewassick on your left and around the next corner, on your right, you’ll see a double gate into a grass field with views to Kit Hill.
Option 1. Enter at your own risk, there maybe a bull in the field, keep the hedge on your left as you walk across the field and exit through the gateway onto the road just above Tregates.
Or stay on the road, past the Old School to the junction, (where Option 1 meets) turn left.
Turn left up the hill and you’ll pass a community notice board, so take note of current events, you’ll then come to St Sampson’s church at South Hill, see the inscribed standing stone and more. (South Hill Rocks on the pathway)
Turn Right at the crossroads, towards Bray Shop. Follow to the entrance of Treven on your Right. Turn Left into a field, avoid trampling on the crop by walking with the hedge on your right around to the opposite corner, scramble over the hedge under a tree and you’ll see a new stile into the next field. There are well behaved horses here that will probably ignore you. Keep left and follow the hedge, then dip thru the gap and keep the hedge on your right to the bottom hedge, Caradon Mast is in front of you. Keep right and spot the new stile on the left, take care as you drop down into the road.
Turn Right towards Linkinhorne with St Mellor’s church in view. Turn left through a gate clearly marked with a footpath signpost, into a grass field.
Walk towards the wind turbine and you’ll see 2 gates before you, take the left hand gate. Keep the hedge on your Right and at the bottom of the field go over the stile, cross a small stream, then walk up the sloping field, keeping the hedge on your right (turn around to see the views and catch your breath) you’ll see a gate in the corner with a For sale sign on it. Go through this gate, into a path which opens into a track and brings you to Mornick. You have walked around 2.5 miles.
Option 2: To avoid fields with animals. Continue straight on down to the bridge and turn left up the hill to Lansugle. You’ll pick up this walk at the footpath marked to Trewoodloe.
OR. Turn Left and follow the footpath signpost by a gate into a grass field on your right. Climb over the stile, crossing to a wood stile and following a straight line ahead to a stone hedge stile in the corner behind a gate. Once you have taken care to negotiate this don’t forget to look around, stunning views in all directions of Kit Hill, turbine at Gang, Caradon, Cheesering, Sharp Tor. Turn right then left along the old hedgerow line, at the end on your left you’ll spot a wood stile into a field with an assortment of friendly animals. Walk straight on to a metal gate.
Option 3: Crossing to the wooden gate ahead you’ll enter Trewassick, follow the track to the road, turn Right you’ll retrace your steps back. Your total walk will be just under 4 miles.
OR Walk to the right corner, there is a stone stile which leads you across a plot to a wood stile into a grass field (there maybe cattle here with a bull so enter at your own discretion) You’re looking into Lansugle in the foreground as you walk to the bottom right corner, where you’ll see a stile into a wooded area, cross the granite footbridge and stile, climb up into the field and head to the gate in front of you.
Turn left and soon you’ll see a footpath sign on your right, to Trewoodloe. (This is where the optional route 2 above will join.) If you continue on this road to the junction and turn right, you’ll return to the crossroads and walked just under 4.5 miles.
Option 4. Climb up and over the stile into a grass field. Straight ahead you’ll see a gate, along the hedge to the left is a stile, head for this. Climb over into another grass field. Keep the hedge on your right and you’ll find a stile in the bottom right corner. This brings you to Trewoodloe.
Turn left, follow the road to a footpath on your right, which leads you pass Moorland View houses and out to opposite the old Chapel, keep in left to avoid walking in the road, walk by the wood fence behind the 1st house which is the old post office, turn the corner and you’re in “back lane” , (where a blacksmiths used to be) this brings you out into the Square (where the Pub was over a 100 years ago at Honeysuckle Cottage, and the Salvation Army Hall). Coming out onto the road, take care, turn left, then cross the road and turning right through a small gate into the recreation field. A lovely spot to enjoy the views, picnic tables are here and a popular children’s play area. You’re back at the Parish hall. You’ve walked around 4.5 miles.
