South Hill W.I.
South Hill Womens Institute meeting held on 2nd September
Our speaker for the evening was Mrs Anthea Lay, local artist who appeared on The Great British Painting Competition on BBC T.V. She told us of how she first started at a young age, being encouraged by both of her teacher parents providing her the materials she needed, also having to use whatever she could lay her hands on at times! This developed her love of painting.
Cllr Steph McWilliam, Cornwall Council
At a recent meeting at County Hall, all the Group Leaders were committed to Cornwall Council’s efforts to help with the refugee crisis. However, we are also aware that we have a severe housing shortage and a funding shortfall for existing services. Officers are working with other councils, the LGA (Local Government Association), the government and various charities to ensure we do what we can without unintended consequences.
Callington Young Farmers Club
Summer kicked off with Competitions Day on 24th May. With the club entering most competitions from the various stock judging classes, cube themed family milestones, the cookery competition cooking a three course meal with only a camping stove and the additional competitions this year of changing a car tyre and club rounders, Callington took home several prize cards and won the day as club with overall most points. Despite the weather everyone enjoyed celebrating into the evening with the after do.
No rest up was had as a week later was Royal Cornwall Show. Continue reading
