South Hill W.I. Report

WILogo

We were given a very interesting and informative talk by local jewellery expert Anne Pengelly.

Anne’s family have owned the local jewellery shop in Callington for many years.  She told us many interesting facts about lots of different gem stones that are available to us. We also had the chance to look at various pieces of jewellery to try and tell the difference between a fake and a genuine – usually this would ultimately mean a great difference in its value, which is very important! It was quite difficult to tell the difference between the two.

There was a vast selection of different gem stones available, some of them members had never been aware of. Modern Jewellery is easily available  or it can also have been in the family for generations, being passed down.  Both are very desirable, worn correctly. Anne explained to us that the right investment in jewellery (gold) is not a bad idea, as long as you know that your investment is a genuine one! At the end of the day you’ve got something to sell on.

After admiring all of Anne’s pieces of jewellery, and her very interesting talk to us, she kindly judged our competitions for the evening:

Competition A.   Piece of Bling          1st Viv Berry

2nd Myra Locock

3rd Jackie Easton

Competition B.   Berries                    1st Marina Herbert

2nd Jackie Easton

3rd Viv Berry

A short Meeting was held, discussing how arrangements for the W.I. centenary were coming along. and which members were going to attend the W.I. meeting at Truro, also Members that were going to the Two Cooks Demo. It was decided that the walks held each month, may have to re-thought about as attendance was down. Matters arising from the newsletter were dealt with. After refreshments the meeting closed at 9.30pm.

Anyone Interested in joining us? Please do come along and meet us!!!!! We meet at The Parish Hall in Golberdon at 7.15pm on the first Wednesday of each month. Or else you can give our Secretary Liz a ring on 01579 383202.
