Parish Council meeting January 17th 2023 meeting

Details of the meeting held on 17th January 2023 included the following topics:

COMMUNITY NETWORK HIGHWAY SCHEME: The scheme allows the Parish to suggest road improvements in the local area. Already being considered by Caradon is a 40 mph speed limit on South Hill Road from the end of the 30mph limit to the junction with Redmoor Road. It was discussed at the meeting whether this could be extended along South Hill Road through Maders thus reducing the speeding problems. Your thoughts on this or any other suggestion for capital road improvements, not road repairs, should be sent to: Jenny Hoskin (Parish Clerk) details below.

As part of the Government’s Help for Households initiative, Go Cornwall Bus is participating in the nationwide £2 fare capping scheme for all single bus journeys across their network, until the end of March. First Kernow and Stagecoach are also taking part. All single journeys in North Cornwall are covered by the scheme!

My thoughts regarding the Devolution Deal being offered to Cornwall!

Four go to Westminster

On Tuesday 15th November four of us from St Sampson’s joined a Save the Parish event at The Houses of Parliament. Not quite a Trelawny uprising, but we did our bit! One hundred parishioners and clergy from around the country and MPs and Lords were in attendance. The speakers did a great job outlining the problems parishes are facing, the finances behind the scenes, and just how parliament can help change the tide.

7 mile circular from South Hill church

From the church turn Right at the crossroads, towards Bray Shop. Follow the road to the entrance of Treven and turn Left into a grass field, head to the far corner, there’s a stile under a tree. Step up and down into another grass field with well behaved horses here, that will probably ignore you. Keep left aim towards Caradon Mast, and follow the hedge to the bottom fence with gate in the left corner. To your right spot a stile over the hedge, take care as you drop down into the road.
Turn Right towards Linkinhorne with St Mellor’s church coming into view. Turn left through a newly widened gate, clearly marked with a footpath signpost, into a grass field.
Walk towards the wind turbine and you’ll see 2 gates before you, take the left hand gate. Keep the hedge on your Right and at the bottom of the field go over the stile, cross a small stream, then walk up the sloping field, keeping the hedge on your right (turn around to see the views and catch your breath). In the top corner, you’ll see a gate (with a For sale sign on it). Go through this gate, into a path which opens into a track and brings you to Mornick.
