MAY 2014

Our May meeting was a trip to Tartendown nursery at Landrake, for a demonstration of how we “should” make our hanging baskets, for the forthcoming summer!

Dawn Morris, one of the owners of the nursery, gave a very informative and interesting talk/demonstration on how to construct a basket (properly). After her demonstration we had the chance ourselves, to do our own baskets with Dawn’s expert help at hand!

Dawn told us, how she provides the floral displays for many of the local towns, B&B’s + pubs etc, for everyone to admire. Everybody had the chance to walk around all of the tunnels, and select any plants we fancied to buy so we could then plant at  home at our leisure. The tunnels were filled with every plant you could imagine. After refreshments we thanked Dawn for all her help and advice and loaded our vehicles with all our newly acquired goodies, and planted baskets ready to display on our properties. It’s now down to us to keep everything well fed and watered!

APRIL 2014

Our April Meeting started with a talk by Trish Brock-Morgan on the benefits of using Aloe Vera in many different ways, e.g. creams, tablets and liquid drinks etc.

Trish explained Aloe Vera is used for many different ailments of the body, the skin also being treated, with varied results.  Trish explained the complete history of Aloe Vera, from the beginning to the present. A leaflet was distributed amongst us listing all of the ailments it can alleviate or cure, and a selection of different creams was passed around for all to try.  Trish gave us some examples of people that had used different forms of Aloe Vera and their results. Many patients that tried it, had no success from previous treatments from the medical profession. Trish was thanked for her presentation on Aloe Vera; I think many of the members learnt a great deal.

We then had refreshments and chat. We ended the night with our W.I Meeting, when arrangements were made for our meeting next month at Tartenden Nursery – all  members invited to bring their empty hanging baskets to fill. We also discussed the Breakfast Morning, to be held in the hall this month were discussed.  The W.I Spring Countdown Meeting at Truro was being held on the 2nd April, with some members going. The monthly walk was to be on a Parish Footpath, all to meet at the Hall on the 10th April. A letter of thanks was received from the County W.I. regarding our donation of money toward the cost of the Hire of the Marquee at the Royal Cornwall Show.
