SHARE Update, April 2016

SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY HOURS:

the number of voluntary hours donated so far by SHARE’s Board and Management Committee as we work to fulfil our vision of a secure and sustainable future for all in South Hill Parish

We are now finalising a series of feasibility studies, paid for by a grant we received last year from energyshare.  A great deal of work has gone into this, not only by the SHARE team, but also Community Energy Plus (CEP) and Paul Martin of Kabin.  Within the next few weeks we will be able to present these results at a full Membership meeting.

At this meeting, members will be invited to have their say on how we proceed from here, so if you have been meaning to join, now is the time to get around to it.

ParishHallPV1Meanwhile, on the roof of the Parish Hall in Golberdon, the solar PV panels installed by SHARE and the Parish Hall committee continue to generate and export electricity – even in these dark months of late winter.

We have attended local renewable energy exhibitions in Plymouth and Exeter and have spoken to other groups similar to ours in their aims and picked up useful information.

A couple of items of interest to share are :

FREE Slow Cooking Workshop with CEP

As the kitchen accounts for a considerable part of a household’s energy bill, this project aims to help families cut energy use by using a slow cooker. Email SHARE@south-hill.co.uk if you would like to attend, date to be confirmed.

The Slow cooking workshop covers:

– an energy efficient way to cook food and turn inexpensive ingredients into delicious family meals.

  • A slow cooker uses less electricity than an oven so you save money
  • You can use cheaper cuts of meat and it will still taste great
  • Quick & simple recipes
  • No supervision required, the slow cooker can be left alone to work its magic
  • A convenient way of including your 5 a day of fruit and vegetables
  • Bring your fuel bills and CEP advisors will offer advice on understanding them and how to save money

This can be used on a regular basis for commuting to work or less often for shopping or infrequently such as holiday travel or visiting friends further afield. There is no need to add any personal details on the sites to join and find others. And it is completely FREE.

Take a look and send us your feedback.
