Thank you
First of all, we’d like to thank our Cornwall Councillor Sharon Daw for a recent grant from her “Community Chest” fund. We’re having hi-visibility vests made, with our logo on the back, for volunteers. This will help reduce any risk to our regular volunteers collecting recycling (see below) in various locations; also planting trees, and helping with the firewood project.
SHARE Recycling for Charity project
The project continues to grow, thanks to our enthusiastic volunteers that help monitor collection bins, pick up, sort into boxes and send the vast amount of items to Terracycle every month. By saving these otherwise hard to recycle items from being incinerated, we are generating funds for charities.
A group of volunteers got together in January to visit the Materials Recycling Facility at Bodmin, and the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre at St Dennis. Gill commented that it was “Brilliant! Very interesting, really didn’t understand the scale of it all”. It’s “a real eye opener and reassuring that there is no active landfill in Cornwall”. When the incinerator at the Energy Recovery Centre is working at full capacity it generates over 500 megawatt hours of electricity per day! We will be organizing more visits this year.
SPOTLIGHT THIS MONTH is on SWEET TUBS (Roses, Celebrations, Heroes, Quality Street etc). As well as saving the sweet wrappers we are also collecting tubs for Devon Contract Waste to make garden furniture, raising funds for DARTMOOR ZOO and MIND charity.
ALL tubs need to be dropped to us by February 28th 2022
Plus FERRERO ROCHER all size boxes, trays & sweet wrappers
(no brown paper cases please)
Where to drop your items ! Tamar Valley Country stores Kelly Bray, Stoke Climsland Old School car park recycling shed, Green Meadows, 200 metres from Golberdon crossroads on the South Hill road just around the corner from Keadeen B&B. Plus our recycling project trailer will be making the monthly rounds.

Embarrassing!
A SHARE director admitted the other day that he doesn’t know what to do with his stash of unwanted paint, and he isn’t alone.
According to a recent article on the Royal Society of Chemistry website, 50 million tins of paint are stashed in UK households. 50% of paint is made up of recoverable polymers, but only 2% is re-used or re-manufactured. The other 98% ends up burned or in landfill. It’s a postcode lottery, but we are lucky we can take our unwanted paint to the Household Recycling centre at Launceston.
