From May 8th – 10th 2014, South Hill Piece Makers introduced another Patchwork and Quilting Exhibition – called ‘Season and Celebrations’ – with a charity raffle in aid of Help For Heroes.
I once heard it said that people who do patchwork, ‘take a perfectly good piece of fabric, cut it up into little pieces and then sew it all together again’ ……
Well in some ways that’s true, but the 2014 exhibition showed some jaw droppingly creative skills from our 25 or so members. There were traditional quilts, contemporary wall hangings, pretty cushions and accessories, heaps of bags in a tombola and miles of bunting. There were even ‘famous’ works of art from members who’ve made quilts for a book! Whatever size, shape or level of perfection, there was a place for everyone’s work and we were all proud to hear all the positive comments about the exhibits and the way they were displayed.
Adding to the experience were delicious home made treats for morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea……so even the long suffering husbands were catered for!
The raffle raised in excess of £600 for the amazing charity Help For Heroes and we’ve gained some new members. All in all, a thoroughly successful exhibition and a delight to take part in as well as to visit.
So next time you think of patchwork as being a thing from the past, or just a load of fabric cut into hexagons, think again!
Now to start my projects for the 2017 exhibition…….
