The 80th annual Young Farmers Clubs County Rally Organised by Cornwall county chairman Cat Ede, took place on Saturday, July 22nd at Meaders Farm, hosted by the Ede and Gorman families.
The rally brings together all the county clubs for a day of fun activities competing against each other in various competitions from cookery, handicrafts to sports & practical skills.
‘how many people can you cram into the middle of a tractor tyre’, the ‘greasy pole’ competition, and build a lawn mower suitable for a tractor pull.
Cornwall Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (CFYFC) is the largest rural youth organisation in the county. You were a blast !!! Insane entries and achievements from the clubs across the county . All of this would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our outstanding county chairman Cat Ede . With the support from the host clubs Callington , Liskeard and Landrake. Thank you . Such a lovely day that we will remember for many years to come . I am so proud to be able to call myself a member and a county officer of such a fantastic organisation !!!!!! What a weekend! YFC Rally then a Tractor Road Run to complete the weekend! I am one super proud County Chairman. With nearly 2000 static entries in the marque all to a high standard, you really showcased the talent within the membership. The practical and sport competitions showed the fun we all have and our mad side… Even the local fire brigade got involved in the fun. Then the party to celebrate a fantastic day! Many thanks goes to Sam Boundy my rally chairman, to all the judges and stewards, Helen Dowdall and Dan Nattle and all the catering team, the awesome team of county officers and staff, host clubs Landrake, Liskeard and Callington YFC, all those that helped behind the bar, our fabulous DJ Pasty, everyone that came to support and most importantly to all the members of Cornwall YFC that turned out, competed and made the day what it was! You are all amazing! Cat Ede.
“It was with great sadness that NFYFC found out that one of our YFC members died last week in a tragic accident in Devon. Our thoughts are with Todd Riggs’ family and friends, including those in his Club Bradworthy YFC and those who knew him. While the details surrounding Todd’s death are still to be determined, we are aware the accident occurred whilst he was driving a tractor and trailer.
“We urge all our members to follow farm safety advice – and especially so this week during Farm Safety Week. As the next generation of young farmers – you can and must make a difference. Please ensure your club adds farm safety training to your Club Programme in 2017-18. Visit: www.nfyfc.org.uk/farmsafetyweek for all the materials and to register your interest in a course.” NFYFC Chairman Ed Ford
Two of Todd’s closest friends Roland Ley and Jon Cleave have written a moving tribute to him, which you can read online here: http://www.nfyfc.org.uk/national_news?articleid=11503
Cornwall YFC members did a minute silence at the rally dance for this true gent. What a tribute to a much loved fellow young farmer. I personally didn’t know Todd but reading this you were a great friend, community spirited and exactly what YFC and farming is all about.
Knowing so many people in the farming industry this has come to a shock to us all. Please people stop, think about farm safety. We all love this job but its not worth dieing for.
This week is Farm Safety Week. As the next generation of young farmers – WE can make a difference. Stay safe people! Love your job, love life. #FarmSafetyWeek Cat Ede Meaders Farm
