Local lady Elaine Pluckrose, whose excellent pasties were sampled by many at our Community Energy Exhibition in February, was very excited about entering the World Pasty Championships at the Eden Project on March 1st 2014.
ALL the pasties! Yum! Elaine’s pasty after judging
Elaine writes:
“It was a great experience and I will be entering again next year as my 84/100 score from the judging of over 150 entries put me in a very high position. Across the different voting criteria I gained 9 out of 10 for pastry excellence, composition, appearance, taste etc so it’s now a case of perfecting for entering again next year as I was up against some very good contenders. During the day I was able to roam around in the Rainforest Biome and Mediterranean Biome and the outer grounds while awaiting judging. This took several hours and was undertaken by a group of 30 pairs of judges to tackle not just the traditional Cornish Pasty but an open pasty category. We heard of the most peculiar fillings like The Ghost Chilli pasty and couscous, Thai Noodles and the gold award in this section was a mixed fish filling.
If there are any youngsters who wanted to give it a go there was a junior section which had a low number of entrants.”
