Young Farmers Club – update


Callington Young Farmers is a club for young people between the ages of 14 and 27 years. We meet every Thursday evening and go on visits to businesses to look around, have talks by some very interesting people, or go bowling and other social activities. You name it we have done it or will do it!

SHARE (South Hill Association for Renewable Energy) – update


ShareBannerThank you to everyone who has supported our bid for funding from energyshare Cornwall. The “bidding” phase has now ended but I think it’s still possible to view the video. We had support from 158 people and topped the poll. Well done! Geoff Hardman and a small group put together the bid and made the video, in only a few days, so a big thank you to them too. Next they have to complete a funding application form. A final announcement will be made in early November.

South Hill Man swings a club for Help for Heroes


pete tunniicliffe headCongratulations to Pete Tunnicliffe for his efforts in raising money for the ‘Help for Heroes’ charity.

Last month Pete organised a golf tournament at Dainton Park golf club, at Ipplepen in Devon, for fellow meteorologists and hydrographers.  In total, they raised nearly one thousand pounds for the charity, which helps Servicemen and women wounded in current conflicts.

Well done to everybody who took part.

From May 8th – 10th 2014, South Hill Piece Makers introduced another Patchwork and Quilting Exhibition – called ‘Season and Celebrations’ – with a charity raffle in aid of Help For Heroes.

I once heard it said that people who do patchwork, ‘take a perfectly good piece of fabric, cut it up into little pieces and then sew it all together again’ ……

Mad Fundraising Cyclists


cyclists-aSteve Moir and Dave Jackson who both live in the Parish, and Andy Russell who lives in Landrake, have finally reached that mid-life crisis point and gone mad!  We have all signed up for a 350 mile cycle ride from Chatham in Kent to Lympstone in Devon in July to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines.  All money we raise will go to the charities Help Our Wounded (HOW) Royal Marines and Homes4heroes.
