YF Club Update
This year we tried something different with Harvest Festival and joined up with
the towns Harvest celebration on Sunday 27th September in St Mary’s Church,
Callington. Members and Kev showed the town’s congregation our presentation of the fruits and Cat done a reading. The church were very supportive of us as a
club and appreciated our presence and bringing more to their service. Thank you to all the parents and advisory that came to support us.
Club also were out in the community at the annual Honey Fair on 7th October were Letty, Sam and Martin were promoting club and geeing  up some new members.
Clubs Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday 9th October at Dupath Barn where a room full of members, advisory and guests came along to hear a roundup of the club year and see the cheque presentation. £2400 was
split between Children’s Hospice SW and Cornwall Air Ambulance which was raised through a host of events held throughout the year including a wine and wisdom, dung sale, clay shoot and dog show. Well done to all the outgoing officers and best of luck to the new officers elected.
Baby Beef was held on 18th October by kind permission of the Hoare family at
Appledore Farm. Members enjoyed an array of games organised by the advisory including the good ol eggs and flour. There were lots of entries staged from
members with Letty winning overall the Linda Bolitho Memorial trophy for most points overall and Rob won the Jim Thorington Trophy for the best photography.
Many thanks to all advisory who helped organise the day.
Liskeard Primestock Show saw members enter lots of entries into the Young Farmers classes and the cubicle with the theme “Pantomine”. Callington came away with 2nd place with the cubicle entry, many prize cards in the static entries and the cup for most points in the Grain and Forage section.
With Bonfire night being on Remember, remember the 5th November, club organised a Bonfire Night on the Thursday evening by kind permission of Phil Cuming at Amy Tree. The event was well advertised with signs on the main road put up prior to the event. The weather cleared up for the evening and around 100 people flocked through the gates to stand around a blazing fire and see the fireworks launch. Harpers kindly donated pasties and members made cakes and other refreshments for all to enjoy. In all a very successful evening was had a bit of money raised too. Thank you to all who supported.
To celebrate the successful year Dinner and Dance was held on Friday 6th November at The Bedford Hotel, Tavistock. The evening was enjoyed by members, advisory, guests and friends with a scrummy three course meal, speeches by Claire Worden, past National Chairman of Council for NFYFC, Kivells Auctiouneer James Morrish and outgoing Chairman Rob Vine. Members were presented with trophies before photos and a quick boggie on the dance floor. Indoor sports was soon upon us with our round held at Bodmin School. Winners of our round we were through to the final at Truro but were worded off the trophy by Probus winning overall, St Buryan 2nd and Praze 3rd.
Thursday 10th December at Golberdon Village Hall 7pm we held a Snowman drive (a Christmas equivalent to a Beetle Drive). 12 rounds, with an interval and raffle half way through. Tickets are £5 adults and £2 children to include a mince pie and raffle ticket. A fun Christmassy evening all in aid of charity!
Club celebrated Christmas in style with a Snowman Drive, Christmas Party and this year were co-hosts with Wadebridge YFC of the famous County Carol service at Truro Cathedral. We had members playing the different roles in the nativity, members reading lessons and prayers and four of us teamed up with Wadebridge, girls to form a choir.
The programme has been varied with pumpkin carving, a visit to Philip Warrens butcher in Launceston, Morris Dancing, Tobagganing and a speaking competitions evening to name a few. Coming up we have our Annual Charity Dung Sale on Saturdy 27th February. Bags of dung are £1.50/bag or 5 bags for £5. All money raised is for charity.
