South Hill WI Report, September 2014

WILogoOur September Meeting started with a talk from a representative from Cornwall Air Ambulance. She gave us a very well informed powerpoint presentation, detailing the excellent work done by them. Explaining that the Air Ambulance relies solely on donations and charity work raised for them by the people of Cornwall, receiving no help from outside organisations, the Government, National Lottery etc.

Living in such a rural landscape it showed how necessary the Air Ambulance is; cutting time getting a patient to Hospital could be vital. Many of the incidents that the Air Ambulance arrive at are only accessible by helicopter, Land Ambulance not being an option.  The Air Ambulance consists of the pilot and two medical people on board. All the team assist the pilot, by looking out for any dangers before landing that might hinder a safe landing!

At the moment the Air Ambulance can only operate from dawn till dusk, and hopefully not being hindered from flying by our Cornish weather (Fog)!!  Not being able to fly  when it goes dark will hopefully change next year, when a new helicopter is received and it is hoped that night flying will be achievable. There are only a couple of exceptions that the Air Ambulance cannot attend (For Crew safety). Many of us having a connection with the Air Ambulance by knowing someone or maybe having received help from them, know how important they are to our County.  Much admiration to them for an excellentsService.

We greatly appreciated the professional talk and presentation we received, wishing the Air Ambulance all the best. Many thanks.

The evening ended with a short Meeting. Names were taken who wanted to attend  a couple of W.I excursions. It was decided that it might be a good idea if some of the trees and shrubs might be better off planted nearer to the hall, instead of in the Recreation field. Up to date Treasurer’s report given.  A few Items of Local Events happening. The walk this month is to be a stroll on a parish footpath meeting at the Parish Hall Carpark at 6pm 11th Sept.

The Meeting closed at 9.15pm.

Anyone Interested in joining us for a fun evening, and a chance to meet up with friends. We meet on the first Wednesday Evening of each month at 7.15pm at Golberdon Hall, you are more than welcome to just come along, or you can give Liz a ring on 01579 383202.
