SHARE (South Hill Association for Renewable Energy)
Over the past few weeks, SHARE representatives have been attending a series of workshops in Bodmin.
The workshops, entitled “Powering-up Communities” are delivered by Community Energy Plus and Kabin, and funded by energyshare.
From an Introduction to Community Energy, through Decision Making, Technical Feasibility, Planning and Community Engagement through to the final session on Social Finance, we and other community groups have been learning how to approach our mission, which is “Powering renewable energy into a secure and sustainable future for all”. Our complete Mission, Vision and Aims can be found here…
We have learned a lot about business strategies, such as having SMART objectives (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely), the importance of Cash Flow and the difference between equity and debt, and some technical detail about different forms of renewable energy production.
So, armed with reams of information and copious notes, we should soon be in a position to deliver some of our Aims, beginning, we hope, with an installation of solar PV panels on the roof of the Parish Hall in Golberdon, working in partnership with the Parish Hall committee. We are also undertaking a feasibility study into viable renewable energy sources that we have in this parish.
We have spoken to landowners with buildings suitable for solar panels on south facing roofs, and identified a limited number where a community project would be viable, generating income for the parish to reinvest. We plan to hold our own workshops to share knowledge, and to encourage and help people to behave in a way that increases energy efficiency and reduces demand.
- If you are considering investing in solar panels or any other form of renewable energy…
- if you have questions…
- if you think you have a suitable roof for a community project…
- if you want to become more involved with our group…
