The Show was opened at 2.00.pm by Sheryll Murray, who congratulated the exhibitors on the quality of their work and produce, she also emphasised the importance of local shows, such as the one at Golberdon, in bringing the community together. Sheryll was presented with a boxed wooden pen by Harry Worth.
There were 467 entries from 48 exhibitors.
The 55th Show was held in the Parish Hall in Golberdon. There was an excellent display of vegetables, cut flowers and pot plants The cookery classes were very good, beautiful floral displays to admire, handicrafts and photography. Competition was brisk in most classes. After viewing all the exhibits, there were cream teas to be enjoyed.
The day’s events concluded with the presentation of trophies by Sheryll Murray, our local MP. The main prize for the children’s classes, the Miss Alvery Cup presented by the Parish Council for the local child gaining the most points, was awarded to Emily Robbins. There was keen competition for the trophy for most points in the Show, which was won by Brian Arthur.
