The Sun came out and so did the crowds, to the Show Fun Day. Proceedings started with a Shout from Callington Town Crier… to stop the slide show put your cursor over the picture.
…followed by a hilarious Soap Box Car Derby with plenty of spills before finishing at the cemetery! Dogs packed out their Show ring, with an Airedale taking the top dog spot.
Piglet racing was a huge draw with squeals of delight. Callington Fire Engine and crew were a hot item as were the Jacket Spuds, Hog Roast and Bar provided by Grumpy Old Porkers on Haye Rd. A Bouncy castle, Bungee run, face painting and games kept the children entertained, while others mingled through a great mix of stalls from local small businesses and vintage tractors and classic cars on display.
The more serious side of the Fun Day was the traditional Horticultural Show, now in its 56th year. In the Parish Hall was an array of colour with a very high standard of flowers, fruits, veg, handicrafts, cookery, photography and imaginative children’s classes. Graham Hindle was thanked by President Jill Reynolds for presenting the 24 trophies.
Throughout the day there was a great community atmosphere, with plenty to see and enjoy.
But the day was far from over as the South Hill WI Duck Race was held at Kerney Bridge, and The METS played under the hall awning to a lively crowd into the late evening – a perfect end to a fantastic FUN DAY. Committee Chair Nick Easton thanked everyone for their support and raising money for local charities, Ellie’s Haven and Children’s Hospice SW. See more on SouthHillParish Facebook page.
