The second weekend of July in 2014 saw the first free music festival in the small town of Callington in south east Cornwall. Over one day at last years’ event 1,200 people attended.

“As the sun sinks silently towards the horizon, we see the end of a phenomenal weekend. 27 hours of live music, from over 30 acts, in our very own special town”.

“It has been a privilege to have met so many gifted, performers, young and old, stall holders and vendors. Thank you all for what has been a truly magical time”.

These were just two of the many, many positive comments about the Festival in the press and on social media. So, will it happen in 2015? Overwhelmingly the organisers, the participants and most of the 3,000 people who came over the three days say YES!

Kelliwik marqueeThe work involved in putting it all together again for an even more vibrant and exciting three days has been underway for four months already: the committee plans, the fundraisers dream up ideas, the budget is set. All we need is some money, good will, performers, vendors and marquees in case the sun is covered by big Cornish clouds!

Held towards the end of Callington’s Carnival Week with 27 hours of live bands, drama and dance, the Kelliwik Festival will again offer local people the chance to shine on stage as well as a long weekend of entertainment for the town and surrounding villages. Music, dance and drama of all genres, jazz, rock, acoustic, gospel, brass band, dance, and choirs are all welcome.

The recreation ground, near the town centre and next to a free car park, comfortably has space for the marquees with local crafts, products and refreshments and the huge one with the stage, seating and room to dance for the performances. Funding, as last year, is being raised by events such as the ‘Dance-athon’ and a ‘Race Night’ as well as being sought from local businesses, the Big Lottery Fund and others.
