  • Register for the CEP winter collective energy switch by FEB 13th

Friday 6th January SHARE invited people to bring their ex-Christmas trees to the Parish Hall and join us for drinks and snacks. Mulled wine and sausage rolls were enjoyed, but the treat of the evening was Astrid’s home-made oliebollen and appelbeignets (delicious Dutch versions of doughnuts and apple dumplings). Thank you to all who came along, we hope we helped to get your New Year off to a good start! The Christmas trees collected will either be chipped for use as garden mulch, or saved for our Bonfire Night meeting in November.

Our solar panels at South Hill continue to generate electricity, though obviously at a reduced rate this time of year. In December 2016 the system generated 774kWh, compared with 3530kWh in July 2016. Naturally we expected this, and built it into our cashflow predictions before we started the project! Overall, the system has generated 16.549MWh in 6 months since installation. This would be equivalent to powering more than 52,000 light bulbs for a day.

And we have received our second Feed-In Tariff and Export payment, so the project is beginning to pay for itself as predicted.

Our friends at Community Energy Plus – a Truro based charity which provides advice and practical help for people in Cornwall to enjoy warmer, healthier homes, launched Community Energy Switch two years ago to help fight fuel poverty by making energy more affordable.  So far they have helped over 2,000 people to switch energy tariffs. Providing average savings of £230 a year, the initiative has kept almost half a million pounds in the pockets of householders!

Registrations for the winter collective energy switch are now open. We’re linking into the group buying power of other collectives taking place across the country at the same time and need as many people as possible in Cornwall to register their interest by 13th February in order to secure exclusive cheap tariffs during the energy auction.

It only takes a couple of minutes to register www.communityenergyswitch.org.uk or by calling 01872 245566 or 0800 954 1956 within normal office hours. It’s free and there is no obligation to switch.

As well as inviting you to switch and save with them, CEP would like to ask for your help to highlight this local initiative through your networks. Can you help to spread the word?
